Be able to support inclusion and inclusive practices in work with children and young people. Explain what is meant by inclusion and inclusive practices. Inclusion is simply to be â€Å"included†. Inclusion is used to ensure that people with disabilities and needs are not restricted from activities and tasks due to this. Inclusion is about valuing all individuals and giving them a fair chance to be included without discrimination, inclusion should also include children from disadvantaged groups, of all races and cultures as well as the gifted and the disabled. Equal opportunities and inclusion should take account not only of access to provision or school premises, but also to facilities outside school settings, such as school visits. It is all about making sure that things are put in place that people are not feeling isolated. Inclusive practices will ensure that everyone feels valued and has a sense of belonging. Inclusive practices are the core of all good practice. Inclusive practice va lues the diversity of the student body as a resource that enhances the learning experience. Schools should ensure that inclusive practices are a matter of course within day to day provision and that any barriers to inclusions are identify and remove. To have an inclusive practice, is to have a strong leadership. Special education teachers no longer may identify themselves as teachers of just a specific category of students. Rather, they must identify themselves as teachers of all students and be willing to provide whatever support is needed to meet the varied needs of students. Likewise, students should not be identified as self-contained or resource, but as students needing specialized instruction and supports for specific skills/subject areas for specific amounts of time in either a special education setting or a general education setting. To understand the issue of inclusive practice for children and young people, it is helpful to understand the medical and social model of disability.
